Shame and low self-worth

Shame can leave you feeling that something is wrong with you, even when you cannot explain why. You might be hard on yourself, dismiss your needs or worry that others will see you differently if you let them get close. Praise may be difficult to accept, while criticism stays with you for a long time.

These feelings can develop through many experiences, including criticism, rejection, difficult relationships or having to hide parts of yourself to feel accepted. Over time, you may come to treat those experiences as evidence of who you are.

Therapy offers space to notice that pattern and explore where it came from. We can look at the way you speak to yourself, what happens in your relationships and what makes it difficult to feel worthy of care. The aim is to understand your experience with more compassion, at a pace that feels manageable.

I offer online therapy for adults across the UK. If you would like to talk about working together, you can contact me to arrange a free introductory conversation.
